Kevin Mirallas reveals Everton players didn’t like playing under Allardyce

Kevin Mirallas takes aim

Former Everton winger Kevin Mirallas has criticised Sam Allardyce over his spell at the Toffees, suggesting the players did not enjoy their time under him.

The Toffees are not enjoying a great start to the season.

After a poor start to the campaign, Marco Silva’s Everton are sat 18th in the Premier League.

With that, any hopes of a top-six finish are practically extinguished.

Should Everton fail to at least challenge for a top-six spot, it would be three managers who have so far failed to deliver that despite huge investment from Farhad Moshiri.

Ronald Koeman was brought in when Moshiri’s tenure began, before being sacked and replaced by Sam Allardyce.

Both failed to capture the imaginations of Everton fans, especially the latter, before being sacked.

Now, former Everton man Kevin Mirallas has gone further in-depth about just how bad it was under Allardyce, despite him guiding the Toffees an eighth-place finish.

‘I don’t know if he even knew football because he only spent five minutes on the pitch in training’

Speaking to the Athletic, as cited by the Mail, Mirallas explained that despite winning games, the players didn’t enjoy playing under Allardyce.

Not only that, Mirallas questioned if Allardyce even knew football, after spending minimal time in training.

‘Martinez and Koeman wanted to play football but after, there was Allardyce,’ Mirallas explained.

‘I don’t know if he even knew football because he only spent five minutes on the pitch in training. Nobody knows this, but it’s true.

‘That’s difficult. You have to pick players at the weekend but you don’t watch training.

‘I only stayed for one month while he was there but I spoke to some players and they told me it was very difficult.

‘It’s true he won a lot of games, but they didn’t enjoy it.’

After assumingly being reached out to, Allardyce claimed to the Athletic that training sessions were shared out among all the coaches.

Arsenal & Everton set to battle for Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Nunez – Mail

Transfer battle for Nunez being touted

Everton and Arsenal are reportedly ‘ready to battle it out’ for Athletic Bilbao’s talented 22-year-old defender Unai Nunez.

Both the Toffees and Gunners have somewhat struggled defensively this season.

Despite Arsenal being sat third in the Premier League right now, they have the second-highest amount of goals conceded in the top seven.

While they clearly have an exciting attack, it is their defence which has been questioned on a number of occasions.

For Everton though, it’s a much more extreme case.

The Toffees have been simply woeful so far this season and are currently sat 18th in the table.

They’ve also lost their last four games, with defeats to Bournemouth, Sheffield United, Manchester City and Burnley.

Now, they’re in desperate need of some defensive reinforcement and Arsenal are set to battle them for Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Nunez.

Set for January Premier League move?

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal and Everton are ‘ready to battle it out’ for Nunez.

It’s not specified whether a move would be in the January transfer window, or whether both clubs will wait until next summer.

Their report reads: ‘Both Premier League clubs are keen on the highly-rated centre back, who already has one senior cap for Spain, and are understood to be contemplating a move.’

Despite having that cap, Nunez isn’t actually a regular for Bilbao.

In fact, he only featured in 13 La Liga games last season.

Nunez has also only featured three times so far this campaign.

Despite that, he could cost either Arsenal or Everton a decent amount, with his release clause supposedly set at around £30million.

Man United’s Paul Pogba & David de Gea ruled out of Liverpool clash

Big blow for Manchester United

Manchester United duo Paul Pogba and David de Gea have been ruled out of the Premier League clash with Liverpool this weekend.

It’s been a less than ideal season for Manchester United so far.

The Red Devils have started the season poorly despite beginning the campaign with a 4-0 win over Chelsea.

Since then, United have suffered disappointing losses at the hands of Crystal Palace, West Ham and Newcastle.

There have also been poor performances against the likes of Southampton and Rochdale.

That has left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under pressure.

Despite being given the dreaded vote of confidence recently, Man United have been heavily linked with a move for Massimiliano Allegri.

It’s even been reported that a deal is ‘very close’.

Now, there’s even more bad news for Solskjaer ahead of the clash with Premier League leaders Liverpool this weekend.

Pogba & Paul Pogba ruled out vs Liverpool

According to Solskjaer, as cited by Sky Sports, both Paul Pogba and David de Gea have been ruled out of the game this weekend.

Starting with De Gea, it was confirmed during the international break that the Spaniard had picked up a groin injury.

Now, Ole has confirmed that David de Gea should miss the game.

“I think he’ll be out,” he explained to Sky.

“It certainly looked like it anyway judging on last night so it’s just one of those things.”

Meanwhile, Paul Pogba will also miss the game this weekend.

The Frenchman hasn’t featured for Manchester United since facing Arsenal on September 30th.

Despite hopes that he could return this weekend after an Instagram post this week, Solskjaer confirmed that both he and Jesse Lingard have “no chance” of being ready.

Jean-Philippe Gbamin’s Everton return delayed by three months

Massive blow for Everton & Gbamin

Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin is set for a further three months out after suffering a setback in his injury recovery.

The Ivorian midfielder joined Everton during the summer transfer window following Idrissa Gueye’s exit.

Gbamin possessed a similar ability set to Gueye and was expected to replace him as Everton’s midfield anchor.

However, his start to life at Everton has been somewhat of a whirlwind.

Gbamin was thrust into Everton’s season-opening game against Crystal Palace after Andre Gomes suffered an injury during the game.

Morgan Schneiderlin was also sent off, meaning Gbamin had to start the next game against Watford.

Though, in a training session following that clash, Gbamin suffered an injury that has kept him out so far this season.

Now, his recovery has taken an unfortunate turn.

Set for three months more on the sidelines

As confirmed by Everton, Gbamin has suffered a setback after returning to light training this month.

The Ivorian was seemingly closing in on his recovery but had to undergo surgery on a tendon injury this week in France.

Now, he’s set for another three months on the sidelines, which will come as a huge blow for Marco Silva and Everton.

In a statement, they explain: ‘Everton Football Club can confirm that Jean-Philippe Gbamin has undergone surgery on a tendon injury in his right quadriceps muscle, which will keep the midfielder out of action for around three months.’

This will come at a very inconvenient time too, with Marco Silva under intense pressure.

With West Ham next up this weekend, Everton will have to deal without Gbamin for that game and the foreseeable future.

Everton have no plans to sack Marco Silva – Sky Sports

Despite pressure on Silva, Everton have no plans to sack him just yet.

Though, he is still under threat with the Everton board wanting imminent improvement.

Big injury update for Chelsea

Injury updates on Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Emerson Palmieri and Andreas Christensen have been reported ahead of the clash with Newcastle.

Chelsea have struggled with numerous injury problems so far this season.

Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Antonio Rüdiger and Ruben Loftus Cheek have all struggled with long-term injury recently.

Meanwhile, N’Golo Kante has been in and out the team so far this campaign due to a couple of problems.

There’s also been other small injuries, such as ones involving Andreas Christensen and Mateo Kovacic.

Now, ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Newcastle, there’s been an injury update.

Kante, Christensen & Emerson out of Newcastle clash

According to Simon Johnson of the Evening Standard, Christensen and Kante are doubts while there’s hopes Kovacic will be okay to face Newcastle.

Starting with Christensen, Johnson claims after a scan on his hamstring injury, the defender is unlikely to feature.

N’Golo Kante is also a doubt for the game, which will be a huge blow for Chelsea.

In relation to Mateo Kovacic, ‘hope is he will be okay’ for the clash with Newcastle, having picked up a minor leg injury on international duty.

His Croatia side beat Hungary and drew with Wales during the break.

Lastly, Emerson Palmieri will not return against Newcastle this weekend.

However, he is set to return from injury when Chelsea face off against Ajax in the Champions League.

Sick Christian Pulisic frustrated with USA substitution & fears Callum Hudson-Odoi picked up a knock before Newcastle

It hasn’t been an ideal week for Christian Pulisic either.

The American winger has supposedly been ill during the international break.

Though, that didn’t stop him from looking visably frustrated when being substituted during the clash with Canada.

Meanwhile, there was a slight scare for Chelsea fans in midweek.

That’s because there were slight fears Callum Hudson-Odoi had picked up another injury.

Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante suffers injury on international duty

Potentially big blow for Chelsea

Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante was forced to withdraw from the France team against Iceland after picking up an injury during the warm-up.

Since joining from Leicester back in 2016, Kante has grown into one of the best midfielders in world football.

The Frenchman is incredibly important for Chelsea but hasn’t had the greatest start to the season.

Kante picked up an injury during pre-season, which has caused several issues.

Despite making the season opener against Manchester United, Kante then struggled to get fit.

The Frenchman was then practically featuring once every two games due to injury problems.

However, he returned to full fitness recently and scored in the clashes with Liverpool and Southampton.

Now, in another unfortunate twist, he could be set to miss even more games after suffering an injury during the international break.

Will Kante be available for Newcastle?

As confirmed by the France national team, Kante was forced to pull out of the starting eleven against Iceland.

Kante had been chosen to start, but was replaced by Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko before kick-off.

It was then revealed that Kante had picked up a muscular injury during the warm-up.

While details regarding the injury are scarce and it could be a precaution, this will be an unwelcome problem for Chelsea.

The Blues already have several players out injured, including Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Antonio Rudiger and Emerson Palmieri.

However, with no news yet on the seriousness of Kante’s injury, Chelsea and their fans will hope the Frenchman will be available for their clash with Newcastle next Saturday.

Tottenham’s Serge Aurier opens up on his attempts to leave in the summer

Aurier admits he wanted to leave in the summer

Tottenham defender Serge Aurier has admitted he wanted to leave in the summer transfer window after a lack of time on the pitch.

Aurier joined Spurs back in 2017 from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee in the region of £23million.

Despite the expectation that he would be Tottenham’s number one right back, Kieran Trippier actually solidified his spot.

That has limited Aurier to just 45 appearances during his time at Spurs.

However, now that Trippier has joined Atletico Madrid, Aurier has found himself back in the team.

While he’s not featured every game, he’s made four appearances so far this season.

Now, the defender has opened up on his attempts to leave Tottenham over the summer and made it clear he needs to play regularly.

‘I’m not 20 anymore and I need to play, to be happy’

Speaking to the Mail, Aurier confirmed he didn’t play at times last season because he was looking to leave.

Aurier also made it clear that ‘I’m not 20 anymore and I need to play, to be happy’.

‘I was looking for an exit, so I couldn’t play. When you’re trying to move, you can’t play because an injury or whatever else can scupper everything,’ he explained.

‘I wanted to leave so it was normal for me to not be on the pitch. Beyond that, it’s the manager’s decision. He’s the one who decides what’s best for the group.

‘Like I’ve said, the season is long so we’ll try and be better going forward and for what comes next. That desire to leave, I think it’s a bit normal. I’m an important player of the national team. I’m not 20 anymore and I need to play, to be happy.

‘There are situations that mean you need to make a decision. I’m a big boy and a dad, so there are choices that are good for me and my family.’
