Revealed: Man United’s plans for the right-back spot next season

Manchester United are reportedly planning on bringing in competition for Diogo Dalot as they step up their efforts to sort out their right-back spot for next season.

Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Matteo Darmian are all the senior options for the full-back position but their futures at the club are unclear.

The Ecuadorian is said to be on his way out after not being handed a renewal to his current deal that expires this summer.

However, now that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the permanent manager of United he may opt to hold onto him.

Darmian is widely expected to leave but that has been the case for a few transfer windows now while Young has been the first-choice right-back all season long.

According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils are eyeing up a £35m bid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to provide competition for Diogo as Valencia and Darmian no longer have a future at the club.

The Portuguese is expected to make the right-back berth his own for the next decade but he will have to earn the right to do so.

Manchester United previously had two youngsters fighting for the same position in Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford and that worked out quite well.

Tim Krul now right on the verge of proving point to Rafa Benitez

Regularly linked with big money moves to ‘top’ clubs, Newcastle fans were desperate to hang on to Tim Krul.

After having been first choice in the Premier League for five years and looking like the long-term successor to Shay Given, nobody would have predicted that in the end the Dutch keeper would be pushed out of the door on a free transfer.

It was a painful fall for Tim Krul, having been established as undisputed number one at Newcastle United, only to then be unwanted.

His last ever NUFC game proved to be the 6-1 hammering at Man City after Mitrovic had put Newcastle ahead in October 2015, a dramatic collapse by those in front of him pointing possibly towards why that season proved to be a relegation one.

Tim Krul went away on international duty after that match and never played for Newcastle again, by the time he recovered from a serious ACL injury picked up playing for Holland, Rafa Benitez had decided for whatever reasons he didn’t want the Dutch keeper and instead brought in Matz Sels.

Disastrous/average loan spells at Ajax and AZ followed, before he was then allowed to join Brighton on loan in summer 2017, a move which quickly became permanent on a year long deal.

However, new Brighton number one Matthew Ryan proved to be their player of the season and never missed a Premier League match, Tim Krul says Chris Hughton then told him he had to leave for the sake of his career as he should be a number one.

A remarkable story has now unfolded since at Norwich City.

What makes it so remarkable is that Norwich are now in the third and final year of their parachute payments, with by far the lowest payment in this third season, they were forced to make a £30m net profit on transfers in the summer and had to rely on loans, cheap buys and free transfers such as Tim Krul.

The former Newcastle keeper has played every minute of all their Championship season so far, the 39th game of the season on Saturday seeing another clean sheet for Tim Krul at Middlesbrough, helping his side to a 1-0 victory and making it seven wins in a row.

Norwich are now on the brink of Premier League football coming back to Carrow Road and Tim Krul on the verge of making a big point to Rafa Benitez.

After the weekend results, Norwich are now seven points clear of third with seven games to go and look nailed on for automatic promotion.

Good luck to him because he did very well at Newcastle and in that 2011/12 season looked as though he could be a key part of a very successful NUFC future.

However, maybe like fans and other players, Krul possible suffered from that total lack of ambition Mike Ashley showed when not building on that fifth place finish.

On Wednesday Tim Krul turns 31 and a very happy birthday to him as he is on the rise again.

Tottenham crashed to a 2-1 defeat against Liverpool yesterday.

The Londoners did extremely well to get back into the game during the second half and they could have easily won the game on another day.

However, missed chances and a late own goal ended up costing them in the end.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are stuck in a rut right now and they need to find out a way out soon if they want to play in the Champions League next season.

The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are more than capable of putting them out of the top four this season.

There were a few underwhelming displays out there for Spurs yesterday.

Christian Eriksen, in particular, struggled to get a hold of the game. He played in the central midfield and the game passed him by for most of the first half.

He did grow into the game in the second half and helped set up Tottenham’s equaliser but he needs to do a lot better.

The 27-year-old Denmark international hasn’t been at his best for a while now and the Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on his performance at Anfield.

Here are some of the fan reactions.

Man United’s surprising future plans for Mike Phelan revealed: report

Manchester United are reportedly set to keep Mike Phelan on as well having confirmed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent role but it seems the former is in for a surprise position.

Fans have lauded the return of the assistant manager who served Sir Alex Ferguson so loyally and to a great effect.

It’s believed his experience has been as central to United’s improved form as Solskjaer’s appointment initially as caretaker manager.

Phelan’s position hasn’t been confirmed at Old Trafford yet as it’s been said his current contract with Central Coast Mariner’s still has to be negotiated.

However, there aren’t any real concerns that will be an issue and so he should be present next season as well.

Mike hasn’t had any real, top experience as a technical director so it is a bit weird seeing him linked with that job.

It could be that Manchester United want him to have a dual role of assistant manager and technical director which wouldn’t be farfetched.

However, some fans feel a more experienced person should be hired as the role is a complicated one that needs full attention.

Nonetheless, Phelan taking on the technical director position could work in favour of Ole as the pair have a fantastic working relationship.

Celtic picked up a narrow 2-1 win over Rangers in the Old Firm Derby on Sunday.

Goals from Odsonne Edouard and James Forrest sealed a vital win for Neil Lennon’s side.

The Scottish giants are now one step away from the title. They are 13 points clear of Rangers at the top of the table after yesterday’s win.

The fans will be delighted with the result against their bitter rivals but the game highlighted some of underlying issues in the squad.

Some of the underperformers will have to be moved on in the summer if Celtic are to take the next step.

The fans were quite frustrated with Dedryck Boyata’s performance against Rangers.

The 28-year-old Belgian was a key player for Celtic last season and he was heavily linked with a move away in summer. However, the Hoops decided to hold on to him and he hasn’t quite been at his best since then.

Boyata has been inconsistent this season and here is how the Celtic fans reacted to his derby display.

LaLiga’s Tebas slams UEFA and ECA for selling a ‘SuperChampions League’ lie

By Paul Nicholson

April 1 – LaLiga president Javier Tebas has hammered the plans of UEFA and the European Club Association to create what he calls a “SuperChampions League” that he says would only widen the divide between Europe’s rich and poor clubs and threaten the sustainability of national leagues.

In an article titled ‘The catastrophic lie of UEFA and ECA’, Tebas accuses the two bodies of failing to take “into consideration the domestic leagues,
