Pictures: Man United players return to training for first time since Newcastle

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been pictured driving into Carrington along with Anthony Martial, Diogo Dalot and Nemanja Matic as preparations for Liverpool on October 20 begin.

The players have been seen for the first time since Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United – a result which further intensified the misery and chaos surrounding the club’s 2019/20 season so far.

And with a mixture of players either sidelined with injuries or on international duty, Solskjaer has something of a quiet week on his hands as he looks to resurrect this team from one serious quagmire.

Photos were captured of Solskjaer, Dalot, Matic and Martial – the latter still recovering from a thigh problem – entering Carrington on Wednesday morning.

Diogo Dalot, David de Gea and Anthony Martial have been pictured returning to Carrington as Manchester United prepare to face Leicester City on Saturday.

Dalot, who is yet to feature this season, spent ten days at Shanghai SIPG receiving specialist treatment for a pelvic injury and should be in contention to face Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Martial, too, should be back in the starting XI after missing the 1-1 draw with Southampton due to an injury sustained against Crystal Palace.

The players were seen pulling back into Carrington as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men look to get back on the right track against the Foxes.

This is the kind of game which could really trip United up: at Old Trafford, for one thing, against a team whose technical ability and fluidity seems to be genuinely superior based on the first four games.

Losing to Leicester would be one thing; losing to them deservedly would pose the same kind of existential questions which plagued both Jose Mourinho and Solskjaer last season.

This team has to do more than claim three points. Big players like Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford, to name just a couple, must assume a dictatorial role, as opposed to merely reacting to Leicester’s football and hoping for the best.

21yo Man United star working extra hard ahead of return from injury

Diogo Dalot flew to China last month to meet with Shanghai SIPG physio Eduardo Santos in an attempt to regain full fitness at Manchester United.

The Portuguese defender featured over pre-season but has not played any part in Man United’s 2019-20 campaign due to an unspecified problem in the pelvic area.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said last month that Dalot is expected to complete a return to action after the September international break.

As seen below, Dalot flew to China on August 29 to meet with Santos, known as the ‘Miracle Doctor’, and spent ten days working at the club’s facilities as he looks to complete a return to full fitness.

Dalot forms an important part of the Solskjaer project and will be especially missed if he does not return soon due to injuries to both Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka ahead of the international break.

Indeed, with a fully fit Dalot in the team, Solskjaer has the option of either using him as an attacker down the flank or as a forward-thinking wing-back in a back five, complimenting the more defensively minded Wan-Bissaka on the right. The defender brings both versatility and enthusiasm to the pitch – something in short supply during games against Crystal Palace and Southampton.

Revealed: The four Man United players faster than Daniel James

Daniel James may be Manchester United’s ‘Player of the Month’ but he is not, contrary to popular belief, the club’s fastest player.

In fact, the rapid Welshman, whose sheer pace starkly contrasted with his teammates at Southampton, does not even make it into the top four.

Recent speed tests actually rank 16-year-old youngster Deji Sotana, who hit a top speed of 22.9mph, at the top of the list. The teenager was crowned Ireland’s under-14 national sprint champion at the age of 12 – an clear indication that this guy has Wheels™.

Coming in second was Diogo Dalot, who, if you remember, topped the first-team speed chart which Romelu Lukaku, for whatever reason, decided to leak on Twitter.

Slightly further back are Tahith Chong, a visibly ferocious runner, and Marcus Rashford, with the pair getting a very similar score despite Rashford never looking like he’s hitting full tilt when he runs.

And only then do we have James, who may be fifth when it came to top speed but would probably rival Sotana when it comes to acceleration over a short distance. That ability, as opposed to raw speed itself, is probably more useful for a manager looking to do some statistical analysis.

Solskjaer provides bad injury news for young Man United full-back

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided a squad injury update ahead of the fixture against Crystal Place with Diogo Dalot seemingly the only one out.

The young Portuguese will likely struggle to get much minutes this season given the brilliant signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka but picking up a knock is likely to hurt his chances even further.

The former Crystal Palace star has been absolutely fantastic so far for United and has shown just how much better he is than his positional competitors.

Dalot will probably only get match-time during the Carabao Cup and Europa League so it’s important he returns fully fit before either competition.

Despite the signing of Wan-Bissaka, fans still have high hopes for the former Porto man to develop into a top full-back and so they’ll be keen for him to push on and recover well.

According to the club’s official website, Solskjaer said: “Diogo is injured, he’ll be out for a little while, hopefully he’ll be back for [the games] after the international break.

“He’s had that problem for a couple of weeks. But that’s it. [The squad is] more or less the same.”

Ashley Young is still in reserve if needed but it’s likely fans won’t want him to feature at all this season if possible.

On the club’s pre-season tour, the experienced Englishman was actually booed by some supporters which was certainly experienced.

Young is actually the club’s official captain but he hasn’t featured so far and so David de Gea has taken over in his absence.

Man United defender’s future cleared up after Wan-Bissaka signing

Manchester United star Diogo Dalot can rest at ease after reports claimed his future at the club is secure, contrary to earlier rumours.

In a shock to all fans, the Portuguese was suddenly said to be on the Old Trafford transfer-list, just a year after arriving.

The young full-back was expected to be United’s right-back for the next decade after Jose Mourinho invested around £19m in him.

It’s believed the rumour surfaced when the Independent accidentally claimed Dalot was being allowed to leave instead of Matteo Darmian.

They quickly corrected their error but by then it was too late with the news doing the rounds on social media.

According to the Telegraph, the Red Devils have full faith in Diogo and are hopeful he can have a bright future at the club but for the time being he will feature further forward or as cover for the left-back position.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s arrival did raise question marks but many felt it just meant the duo would have healthy competition for the right-back spot.

It appears Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sees matters differently and instead Dalot can expect to be more attacking next season.

The former Porto man did play as a right-winger a few times in the last campaign, most successfully during the historic comeback victory vs PSG.
