Of all the players who have progressed under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds, one player stands out above all – Kalvin Phillips.

From just being a promising talent, he has become the midfield dynamite of Leeds, within just 12 months or so. That he was talented was known to all, but the manner in which he progressed, that too in such a short time, is nothing short of a managerial genius from Bielsa.

He is the first name on the team-sheet and has hardly had an off game since Bielsa took charge.

On Saturday, Leeds drew 1-1 against Nottingham Forest at home, and once again Phillips stood out as one of the top performers from the match.

Phillips picked up a yellow card early but what impressed the manager was the maturity shown by the 23-year-old.

“We knew, when we were thinking, the 28 (Silva) and 17 (Alfa Semedo) were unbalanced players. It was a great sign of maturity in Kalvin for him to play most of the match with a yellow card. He never took any risks to leave the pitch,” said Bielsa to Leeds Live.

“The centre-backs and Phillips had a lot of time on the ball when they were playing out from the back and this creates a bigger chance for mistakes. In this game we didn’t see mistakes, but when we did, the team knew how to resolve the situation.”

Phillips made two key passes, made five tackles, and attempted 62 passes with a fantastic 87% accuracy, according to whoscored.com. No wonder why Aston Villa and Wolves were/are so keen to sign him!

Leeds are one of the favourites to secure promotion to the Premier League this season, and they have started the season on a positive note. Philips will have to play a massive role for the Whites if they are to have any chance of making it into the top two of the Championship this season.

Leeds United signed Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal on the transfer deadline day.

The 20-year-old is a highly-rated young striker, and Leeds fans are eager to see him in action.

Although Marcelo Bielsa didn’t pick him against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, the Argentine boss has hinted that the youngster could feature against Salford in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

Bielsa has insisted that having joined so late in the transfer window Nketiah didn’t train with the current Leeds players. Therefore, he will be willing to wait and see how he trains before making the call about his involvement in the next match.

“Maybe he will play on Tuesday. He didn’t do any training with the team before now. I prefer to wait before I say if he will or will not play,” said Bielsa to the Leeds Live.

Leeds sold Kemar Roofe in the summer to Anderlecht and signed Eddie Nketiah on loan as a replacement.

Patrick Bamford remains the first choice striker for Marcelo Bielsa, but surely at some point the Argentine will use Nketiah.

It remains to be seen whether the youngster makes his debut in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

Leeds have made a good start to the season, picking up four points from their opening two Championship games.

According to reports from Sky Sports, Leeds United are close to signing Lorient goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

The 19-year-old French goalkeeper is set to undergo a medical today ahead of a season-long loan to Leeds United.

Sky Sports journalist Tim Thornton confirmed the report on social networking site Twitter earlier today.

Leeds United needed to sign a goalkeeper this summer after they lost Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who joined Premier League club, Burnley, last week.

Kiko Casilla is the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, and it seems Meslier will become his understudy at the Yorkshire club.

The youngster is a highly-rated young goalkeeper and has made 23 appearances for the club since making his debut in 2018.

He has also represented the France Under-19 team, which shows that Leeds have signed a player with loads of potential.

While an experienced Championship or Premier League goalkeeper would have been ideal, it seems Marcelo Bielsa has landed a hidden gem here.

Reputed Journalist positive about ‘doable’ double deals for Leeds

Phil Hay has confirmed on his Twitter account that Leeds United are weighing up a move for Liverpool winger Ryan Kent ahead of Thursday’s deadline day.

While replying to a fans’ query on Eddie Nketiah, Hay says that Leeds have been ‘weighing’ up deals for either Kent or the 20-year-old striker.

The reputed journalist says that Bielsa is concerned about the shortage of forwards, especially after the departure of Kemar Roofe, who is all set to join Anderlecht.

Liverpool are looking to offload Kent on a permanent deal while Leeds are planning to sign Nketiah on a season-long loan.

Hay claims that Leeds can secure double deals for both, but they will either sign one or the other.

According to the ever-reliable James Pearce, who has joined The Athletic UK, Liverpool want close to £10million for the winger, with Leeds one of the clubs interested in signing him.

Kent enjoyed an excellent campaign last season at Rangers, and he would be a great signing for the Whites. At this moment it seems like Leeds could sign Nketiah, but a deal for Kent cannot be ruled out either.

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has been left highly impressed with the performance of Ben White on Sunday.

The Whites started their 2019-20 Championship campaign on a high as they earned an emphatic 3-1 victory away to Bristol City.

White, who joined this summer on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion, made his Championship debut for Leeds alongside Liam Cooper at the heart of the defence.

When asked after the match to comment on White’s performance, Bielsa replied to Leeds Live: “One of the best players in the match.”

Indeed, the Argentine is absolutely spot on with his assessment.

While the likes of Pablo Hernandez, Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison stole all the limelight, young White impressed everyone with his assured defending.

The 21-year-old defender looked comfortable at the back, and was superb during the game.

White made one tackle, one interception, two clearances, and made 66 passes during the game.

There is a feeling among the Leeds fans that Bielsa should have signed another central defender, but White’s performance probably vindicates the Argentine’s decision.
