Man United’s chase for Koulibaly takes a twist: report

Manchester United have reportedly been dealt a blow in their chase for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly in their bid to resolve their defensive woes.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival hasn’t stopped the goals from opposition attackers flowing in and so the need to address their issues in the back are clear for all to see.

It’s believed the Norwegian’s main focus is to invest in the full-back positions but there’s a feeling for the need to partner Victor Lindelof with a capable centre-back.

Koulibaly is said to be their ideal signing due to his experience, leadership and obvious top talent which is why he has several suitors in the first place.

United’s chances of signing him are already pretty low, particularly with no Champions League football on offer but it appears as though it’s now near impossible.

According to Calcio Mercato, Correire dello Sport report that Napoli rejected Real Madrid’s €90m offer for Kalidou as they stick to their guns on his €150m release clause.

Given how the Italian side won’t even budge for the Spanish giant then it leaves the Red Devils with almost no chance of signing him.

Koulibaly’s €150m release clause is also a huge chunk of Solskjaer’s reported £200m budget and given the amount of players he still wants to sign, a deal is unlikely.

Tottenham are thought to be preparing a big offer for the Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio.

According to El Confidencial (report translated by SportWitness), the Londoners want to sign the playmaker and they are preparing for an offer in excess of €100m for him.

Asensio has a €700m release clause and it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid are willing to do business for him this summer.

The Spaniard is highly rated at the club and he could develop into a real star for them in future.

Tottenham’s interest in the player certainly makes a lot of sense. Christian Eriksen has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and if he ends up leaving, they will need a quality replacement.

Asensio could be his ideal long term successor at Tottenham.

However, a €100m offer from Tottenham seems quite unlikely as it would shatter their club transfer record.

Daniel Levy has always been a shrewd spender and he hasn’t paid large sums of money for his targets in the past.

Having said that, the 23-year-old is a prodigious talent who can certainly justify the fee in the long run. Pochettino could help him fulfil his world class potential at Tottenham.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs can get their man this summer if the reports are correct.

Tottenham are keen on signing the Real Madrid playmaker Marco Asensio.

According to AS, the Londoners contacted the Spanish giants to kick-start negotiations for the attacking midfielder.

However, Los Blancos have informed them that Asensio is not for sale unless his release clause is paid in full.

The 23-year-old has a €700 million release clause. Asensio has 6 goals and 4 assists for Real Madrid this season.

It is certain that no club can afford to pay that kind of money for Asensio and Spurs will now have to look at other targets.

Pochettino is keen on improving his side’s creativity this summer and Tottenham have been linked with the likes of Grealish, Sessegnon and Zaniolo.

Christian Eriksen has been linked with a move away from the club and if he decides to move on, Spurs will have to bring in a good creative midfielder.

Asensio could have been a superb signing for Pochettino. The Spaniard has all the tools to develop into a world class footballer.

It will be interesting to see where Tottenham are looking next. They need to improve their attack in order to challenge the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City next season.
