The emotional goodbye of Michael Carrick to Manchester United fans at Old Trafford
“I think I’m going to keep this brief, I got a bit of stick for speaking too much at my testimonial last year so I’ll keep it short. On behalf of the players, coaching staff and manager we would like to thank you for your support. We have had our ups and downs but we finished second and we thank you very much.
On behalf of myself I would like to say thank you for your support over the years, your support over the years both here and away has been unbelievable between us I’ve got a lot of memories to cherish. Some I’ll never forget, especially at this place, it’s an amazing place to play football, it’s the greatest club in the world and I thank you for your support for the last 12 years.
I have played football a bit longer than 12 years. I want to say a massive thank you to my family who are sitting up there and friends and these two little superstars and my wife. A lot of sacrifices go in to making it as a footballer and playing for this club, you have devote a lot of your life to it.
It’s great to see the kids and families out here because without their support we wouldn’t be able to perform like we do for so long. So to everyone up there, I’m grateful for everything you’ve done for me, thank you.
Lastly, It’s been a tough week for everyone at the club. Part of this family is Sir Alex and he’s had a tough week this week, I would just like to say he is probably watching this somewhere or he will hear about it and I’m sure he appreciates all the support you have given him not just today but the whole time he has been here.
All our thoughts and prayers are with him and we wish him a speedy recovery. We want to see him sitting back up there some time soon.” (Michael Garrick)
